Random fun facts...and a poetic intro outa boredom ^_^

I am an angel born on Devil's night - born in a cookie cutter suburb, raised near a city of sin, yet great potential. I am a firstborn - a natural leader. I mean what I say and say what I mean. I cry at commercials. I love to get lost and find new adventures. I love quiet time at home. I have a black cat who's earned every racist label possible. I love to listen. I love to talk. I love people. I love stories - especially with happy endings. I love poetry. I love writing. I often ask "why?" My conservative tendencies to teach a man to fish are contradicted by the ease of simply giving him one. I wonder what it's like after death. I love Life and value it immensely. I equate Sunday Mass to school, where Jesus Christ paid a price to enable my attendance I take a leap of faith every second of every day, simply by breathing - as each breath may be my last. I find sports mundane, but go to the events for the food. I am down to earth. I am a dreamer. I am always learning. I love sitting on a porch with those I love enjoying a glass of wine watching a thunderstorm. I am an organized slob. I am aggressive. I am emotional. I am intense. I would save the love of my life over a million people any day. I am a "lady in the streets and a freak in the sheets". I am arrogant but humble. I am generous but selfish. I am outgoing but shy. I am your worst nightmare but your best dream. I am a walking contradiction - imperfect and human through and through...but as close to immortal as it gets. The only one who can stop me is me. And I can take her.

Why am I on here? Most people seem to be on here because they can't "get" anyone in real life, for whatever reason. For me, it couldn't be any further from that - in fact it's quite the opposite. I have no problem there - but when it comes to finding someone of quality - that's a different story...not talking someone with JUST the personality, JUST a good career, JUST intelligence, or JUST a kind heart. That's like choosing to eat one type of food for the rest of your life and choosing it based on ONLY smelling good, ONLY tasting good, or it ONLY being healthy for you. Wouldn't you rather choose something with a good combination of all the aforementioned qualities? Surely, you'd like the whole package and wouldn't choose anything at all until you were sure to choose one food where you wouldn't be settling for less than best - I'm no different. As W. Somerset Maugham said, "It's a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you often get it." I like being single just fine, and someone will have to be pretty special to change that. Don't want A guy as much as I want THE guy.

Cocky? Maybe, but how can you expect someone to love you if you don't even love yourself?

The mundane details:

~I am fascinated with the date December 21, 2012 - NOTHING to do with the movie.

~I have 1 piercing in each ear and no tattoos, you don't put a bumper sticker on a Bentley :P

~Yes I like "Twilight", it completely consumed my life and I still love it(Edward Cullen in specific ^__^).

~I'm Polish (and part gypsy). I can speak, read, and write - used to teach, too. I think in English though.

~My peeves: being late, wasting things, waiting, people who hide things, people who talk big but fail to deliver, dishonest people, bad drivers, obnoxiously huge tits, people who chew with their mouths open, American cars, people who spend their entire lives on their cell - ESPECIALLY while hanging with me, bad kids, bad dogs, bad parents/dog owners, giving me "drop it" the moment a conversation veers into an unwanted direction, people who overdo sarcasm, people who claim being vegan is "natural", cowards, the new "cool" (aka getting drunk, watching sports, getting high, and sleeping around).

~One of my favorite treats is raw egg yolk with a spoon of sugar. DELICIOUS! (no worries, the sugar cooks the egg)

~I paid for college myself, was an extra for a movie, among other things - I guess those things held more importance over learning how to ski, rollerblade, doing a cartwheel, or swimming :/

Urban Decay Shadows dupes!!

My apologies for having abandoned you dear blogger...my new workload combined with my stellar laziness  equates to a horrid product of nothingness...I promise to try to update at least every once in a while....

Anyway Urban decay eyeshadows...who loves them? I do!! The pigments are superb, the shimmer is lovely, and they've got good staying power!! (Provided you use the lovely Milk of Magnesia priming trick)! But they're so freaking expensive at $17 per pop. Working at Ulta SUCKED too - do you know how much of my paychecks went to these things?? Too much...let's leave it at that -__-

Luckily, there's a solution: the Coastal Scents Shimmer Palette. 88 eyeshadows for $19.95, many of which are Urban Decay copies! Oh China, how I love you and your knockoffs and dupes of everything...seriously I am all for buying these "copies" as more often than not, the original thing is made in China to begin with. So if anyone has the recipe to duplicate it, it's often those same factories. In fact, many of these factories who are told "I want you to make 10,000 of these Juicy Couture purses," simply make an extra 1,000 with the materials and sell them under the table for a fraction of the price of our greedy American corporations.

Ahem, as I was saying...a bulk of the shadows from this palette are Urban Decay knockoffs. As someone that owned some of the original Urban Decay shadows, I was shocked how similar these copies were to the originals...
*Props to  The Shadow Queen for the find.

DSK heart necklace - DIY!!

Hello all! Whew finals are OVER!! The thing that makes me happiest about this is NO MORE MATH!! Nursing school starts January 11th. Until then I'll have plenty of blogging time ^__^

Has anyone ever heard of DSK Jewelry? They've got some gorgeous necklaces! My favorite was the Bubz necklace made famous by Bubbi who's kind of a youtube celebrity:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_RSaS9gj17YM/SuDNxdwWxBI/AAAAAAAABQQ/9B84ocuCPkY/s400/DSKbubbienecklace.pngBubbi didn't make it, I think DSK just named it after her. My dad's a jeweler (I know - lucky girl right!) so I see a lot of stuff and am particular about my jewelry, but I must say - I adore this piece! The Swarovski heart colors are striking, the little leaf bails on top give the pendants a delightful apple appearance (ah...the forbidden fruit), and even the chain itself catches the light so alluringly.

But I flipped at the price...a whopping $40.00?? The chain and bails are made from simple sterling silver...not platinum. I worked at a jewelry counter for a bit and knew such a  necklace couldn't be worth more than $20. So my hunt on how to replicate this necklace for a fraction of the cost began... DSK claims they've copyrighted the necklace, but the only copyright anything on their website is their images and website content. In addition, I highly doubt they'd be allowed to copyright such a simple necklace design.

If you'd like to replicate this necklace - here's what you'll need:
I'm sure you can figure out how to go about putting the pieces together yourself, but if not feel free to drop me a comment and I'll provide instructions. One last thing to add:  I love how Steph, the DSK owner, has renamed the crystal colors Titanic Blue and Purple Haze to prevent anyone from googling the crystals for personal purchase. I also find it funny that the second leaf prong bail is currently sold out - most likely also the reason DSK has sold out of necklaces and won't be making any more until after Christmas. Oh and PS - the total cost to create this necklace for yourself is around $18, meaning DSK makes around a $22 profit -  props to them for such profitable ingenuity.

Antishine primer prep for foundation/eyeshadow

Sorry I haven't posted in FOREVER - between work, upcoming finals, and submitting all the necessary documents for NURSING SCHOOL (yes, i got in ^__^) I've had very little time!!

HOWEVER i have discovered THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER. Many of you know how much I love Smashbox's "Anti-shine" - sort of a primer used on your t-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) which when dried, somewhat tightens on your face sucking any oils or moisture out so that it's a perfect canvas for foundation, preventing it from sliding off:

http://www.sephora.com/assets/dyn/product/P9890/P9890_hero.jpg

Despite never having a problem with oily skin, I use this stuff religiously as it really makes your foundation stick. However, at $27 for just an OUNCE of the stuff - it's pretty expensive.

I've found an alternative - one that'll cost you $3 for a whopping 26 ounces of pretty much the same stuff (if you get the Walmart equate brand, which is identical in ingredients with just a new label slapped on):

The image “http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/68/11/31/83/0068113183712_215X215.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

You heard right - Milk of Magnesia, found in the laxative section!! I read somewhere that models use this stuff to prep their faces for foundation AND eyeshadow. Just apply some to a damp face, leave on for 2 minutes, and wash off the excess!  This also has an advantage the Smashbox Antishine doesn't - it draws out impurities in the skin. At only $3 for the whole bottle, I had to try the stuff and it left my skin with the tightness the Antishine gave me for a fraction of the price!! I'll do both the Milk of Magnesia AND the Antishine (followed with foundation, and then powder) if I'm going to a big party or wedding or something for ultimate staying power. But this stuff is definitely powerful enough on its own!
Do you have any tricks to make your makeup last? Know of any bathroom items that can be substituted for the expensive stuff?

Flu shots, vaccines, etc.

A friend of mine just showed me this video and I was moved to tears about a beautiful girl's life ruined by a simple flu shot:

I'm a huge fan of Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carey's work on advocating that vaccines are not bad (if it wasn't for the, polio would still be around) - but the impurities in them (mercury and antifreeze are just a few of the toxic ingredients) as well as the amount of them within the first year of a child's life are completely unnecessary and account for the autism caused in Jenny McCarthy's son. She has since joined many other parents who've had similar experiences in their children following vaccines.

This is a fantastic informative video on how vaccines work and how they are distributed (the funniest thing was that 70% of doctors and nurses do NOT get flu shots - and yet they encourage YOU to get them!):

Something to ponder - and please show these vids to your loved ones!

Favorite eyeliner

I'm a huge fan of eyeliner, I think it makes the eyes look so much more awake when put on. Without it, I feel like I look exhausted. I always use black, since I'm dark, a brown liner doesn't show up too well and I'm not a fan of unnatural colors as liners unless I'm going out.

Occasionally I'll use liquid, but I find my favorite is the pencil. It's easy to apply and practically flawless every time I put it on. And the best pencil I've ever found is the  Urban Decay 24/7 glide on pencil.

It's pricey ($17) but it glides on like a cream, and once it dries it's solid and impossible to remove. I tested this on my hand and even through all the regular day activities (even hand washing - and hand rubbing) it stayed for like 2 days straight!! It's the blackest liner I've found, to the point where the black is as strong as a liquid liner, with the softened edge of a pencil liner. It also lasts longer than any other liner, even on the inner rim/waterline of the eye.

Karlasugar did a review and posted color swatches here.

Favorite fragrances

Juliet once said: "...that which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet..."  Did you know that the brain - out of all the senses - remembers scent the most?

I LOVE perfume. It's like an addiction. Thank God I'm the pickiest when it comes to choosing it though, cuz perfume is deff an expensive hobby. I was at Ulta the other day for their weekly specials (and Halloweeen fake eyelashes lol) and when I walked past the registers I got a whif of something that smelled amazing. I was thinking, "How nice to work somewhere that smells like THAT all the time." When I brought up my purchases to the counter, I asked the cashier, "Ok - I HAVE to know - WHAT is it that smells soooooooo good up here?" She said, "Well I'm wearing Idole d'Armani - is that it?" I walked over, smelled the perfume bottle and yep - that was it. I bought it on the spot. I sprayed it on myself, and at first it was a little sweet. But after a few minutes it dampens to a cross between a musky, fresh, and floral scent. I actually don't like musky at all - so I'm leaving this as my fall/winter scent. My credit card for some reason still smelled like that the following day at work and my coworker said, "OMG WHAT is that smell? It smells sooooo good!" Lol and the cycle repeats. I'm wearing it right now and CANNOT stop smelling myself!!

Some of my other favorite fragrances - most of them tend to the floral/fresh/feminine side:
  • Pink by Victoria's Secret (the first one I ever bought!! Extremely floral, a very girly scent)
  • Chance Eau de Fraiche by Chanel - the GREEN colored one, NOT the yellow one (the yellow one smells like poison shit, the green one smells very fresh, clean, and summery)
  • Raulph Lauren Romance (another clean fresh and feminine scent)
I also love (but do not have in my collection):
  • DKNY Be Delicious (the green apple)
  • Clinique Happy Heart
  • Christian Dior J'Adore
GAHHH I CANT STOP SMELLING MYSELF!!! ^___________^ Anyone have any scents that are MUSTS in their collections?
